Hello from Alaska

Deborah Horner Two years since traveling to Antarctica, I journeyed to Baffin Island, Nunavet, Canada, and Greenland. In December of this year, I will be exhibiting new works from this trip as well as paintings from Alaska and the Yukon, at the Well St. Gallery in Fairbanks, AK. The new works will be posted on this site following the opening of the show.

In October 2017, I sailed aboard the Russian research vessel, Academik Ioffe from Ushuaia, Argentina, to the Falklands, South Georgia Island, and the Antarctic Peninsula. During 19 days at sea, I saw magnificent scenery, tempestuous seas, birds of the southern seas, and marine life. Penguins and albatrosses, both icons of the southern seas, entertained throughout the trip. Seals, including the enormous southern elephant seal, provided interesting viewing during shore excursions. Beginning with "Heading North," nine paintings feature landscapes from the southern seas.

The paintings "Along Fossil Gap Trail" through "Sentinel Spruce" are of scenes in the White Mountains National Recreation Area north of Fairbanks, AK. I was selected as the BLM 2015 Winter/Spring Artist in Residence and spent six days photographing, sketching, and doing quick watercolor studies.

The remaining works are all landscapes of areas in Alaska, Yukon Territory and British Columbia. I hope you enjoy looking at the paintings.
